In traditional accounting terms, these categories are also known as <strong data-start=\"398\" data-end=\"418\">Nominal Accounts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In EasyPC Accounts, these are referred to as <strong data-start=\"466\" data-end=\"483\">Account Names<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each time you record a receipt or payment, it must be assigned to an Account Name (Nominal Account). This ensures transactions are grouped consistently and reports can be produced with meaningful totals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"700\" data-end=\"742\">A Simple Analogy<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of your finances like a set of folders:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An <strong data-start=\"796\" data-end=\"813\">Account Group<\/strong> is like a main folder (e.g. <em data-start=\"842\" data-end=\"858\">Administration<\/em> or <em data-start=\"862\" data-end=\"875\">Maintenance<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An <strong data-start=\"884\" data-end=\"918\">Account Name<\/strong>\u00a0is a file inside that folder (e.g. <em data-start=\"954\" data-end=\"966\">Stationery<\/em> or <em data-start=\"970\" data-end=\"980\">Salaries<\/em>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Every transaction is placed into the correct \u201cfile\u201d, which sits inside a \u201cfolder\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This makes it easy to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Find specific types of spending or income<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See totals for each category<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep everything organised and consistent<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1228\" data-end=\"1244\">Key Concepts<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong data-start=\"1248\" data-end=\"1282\">Account Name (Nominal Account)<\/strong><br>This is the specific category a transaction is recorded against.<br>Examples include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stationery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Salaries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bank Interest<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burial Fees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong data-start=\"1447\" data-end=\"1464\">Account Group<\/strong><br>This is a higher-level category used to group related Account Names together for reporting purposes.<br>Examples include:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Administration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintenance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Income<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1668\">Chart of Accounts<\/strong><br>The full list of all Account Names and their associated Account Groups.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports then total each \u2018file\u2019 and \u2018folder\u2019, giving both detailed and summary views of your finances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td>Administration<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Stationery<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Computer supplies<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Salaries<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Maintenance costs<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Grounds maintenance<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Other payments<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>&nbsp;<\/td><td>Miscellaneous payments<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1495\">How This Works in Practice<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Every transaction:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is assigned to an <strong data-start=\"1537\" data-end=\"1571\">Account Name (Nominal Account)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which sits within an <strong data-start=\"1596\" data-end=\"1613\">Account Group<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This structure allows reports to show:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Detailed figures (by Account Name)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Subtotals (by Account Group)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that, while the first two can be changed or deleted, the account for VAT repayments <strong>cannot be changed<\/strong>.
